Your local animal shelter or humane society will have dogs for adoption. Also, each breed has it’s own rescue service and are also looking for good homes for these animals. You will be required to prove you are a responsible pet owner and can afford the food costs and basic veterinary care.

  10. There is a great site called Petfinder.com. You type in your zip code and it tells you what animals are available in your area at various shelters and rescue agencies – complete with pics etc. I found my two adult dogs at the local animal shelter this way last year. I had always had puppies – but am now convinced young adults are the greatest! House trained and no whining from the start! They also seem to sense they were rescued. Give an older dog a shot. Thanks for adopting! Everyone else out there – please have your dogs and cats spayed or neutered.Seeing all these abandoned animals breaks my heart!

  13. Get online and type into your bowser browser the type of dog you want followed by the words, "rescue" or "adoption". Go to your local pound and look at the selection, or visit a local adoption center and look at theirs.

  16. look in the yellow pages for your local SPCA or Humane Society.

be sure to tell them what kind of animal you are interested in, and your lifestyle…EX. if you are active, the outdoors type, or if you are more laid back. they can help you find a dog that best suites your lifestyle. just because a dog is cute doesn’t make it the right dog for your family, they each have their own personalities and the SPCA or Humane Society pet adoption officer should be able to help match a good dog to your family.

  17. you can look in the news paper, go to the humane society, or you could save one from the dog pound becuase not all animals that go there are bad animals.
